Dr. Peterson is a board-certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who is a native of the Sioux Falls area. After graduating from Brandon Valley High School, he attended South Dakota State University where he received a degree in biology. He then went on to medical school at the University of South Dakota where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Peterson completed his residency in general orthopaedic surgery at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. While there, he received extensive training in total joint replacement. Dr. Peterson then completed a fellowship in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine in Phoenix, AZ where he developed expertise in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and ACL reconstruction. Dr. Peterson practices general orthopedics and specializes in arthroscopic surgery and total joint replacement of the shoulder, knee, hip, and elbow. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS) and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery (AAOS) and Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA).
Dr. Peterson is a fellowship trained arthroscopic and sports medicine surgeon. He routinely treats injuries of the shoulder, hip, and knee with minimally-invasive arthroscopic techniques. He specializes in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. This highly specialized technique provides very rapid recovery and enhanced outcomes compared with traditional open surgical techniques. Dr. Peterson also specializes in arthroscopic ACL surgery and cartilage restoration techniques. His extensive arthroscopic experience will allow rapid recovery for the elite athlete or weekend warrior. Dr. Peterson also has trained extensively in joint replacement surgery of the hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow. While at the Mayo Clinic he was trained in complex joint reconstructive procedures as well as exposed to the latest techniques. He uses minimally invasive approaches that result in less postoperative pain and quicker recovery. He has a broad general orthopedic practice that also encompasses operative and nonoperative fracture care
